Our dream has come true and we have sailed our fully re-fitted Hallberg-Rassy Monsun 31 from the Baltic Sea to the Canary Islands. As we will not have the opportunity to sail further within the coming years, we are ready to sell this beauty to someone who appreciates her exceptional condition and readiness to sail.

S/Y NIXE is currently in Madeira / Porto Santo and will be sailed back to Lagos (Portugal) in March 2026, as soon as the weather permits. In our view, Lagos is the perfect location to take on your new boat: The marina is well situated with an active and supportive sailing community, there is one of the biggest boatyards in the region with a huge chandlery and flights to nearby Faro are cheap from all over Europe. It is, also, the ideal starting point for a sailing journey, either going North to Scandinavia or the British Isles, going East to the Mediterranean or going South-West to the Canary Islands.

The Monsun 31 is known for its outstanding seaworthiness and excellent quality of workmanship (check the official Hallberg-Rassy homepage for further details). With hull number 794 from 1980, S/Y NIXE is one of the latest in the series, incorporating numerous improvements while retaining its classiness.

Until 2024, the boat was sailed on Swiss lakes and was looked after by caring owners. We bought her in April 2024. A seaworthiness survey was commissioned and confirmed that the boat is in exceptionally good condition and approved for worldwide ocean sailing (Category A).
Between August 2024 – July 2025, the boat was subject to a complete refit. The refit was done to a high-quality standard using the best available materials and components. It includes, amongst other things, a freshly renovated teak deck, the newest iteration Volvo Penta D1-30F engine with very low hours, all new drive train and a new feathering prop, new electric installations, new through-hulls and seacocks in top grade bronze, new communication equipment, freshly replaced standing and running rigging and a full array of safety and emergency equipment.
The interior of the boat is magnificently built in mahogany with new upholstery in dark blue Alcantara and a beautiful plank floor in mahogany. Noteworthy is also the transformation of the former diesel tank into a fully enclosed blackwater tank system, where toilet, hand wash and galley water can be retained. This addition is essential if you would like to explore Scandinavia (e.g. the Swedish archipelago) or the Mediterranean and is not standard in boats of this age. Also, it avoids the well-known challenges of fouled diesel as the separately installed diesel tank is easily accessible and can be inspected at any time.
The boat is fitted with the industry’s best windvane self-steering system and a highly efficient hydrogenator, thereby giving fantastic autonomy for long-distance passage making, even short-handed.

During our ownership since 2024, this Monsun 31 has seen investments of more than 47.000 EUR (refit and new equipment – all accounted for with receipts, not including labour).
The result is an extremely capable, beautiful, functional and safe pocket-cruiser that retains a pure and simplistic sailing experience – isn’t this what it’s all about?

  • Sailing under Swiss flag. After consultation with the Swiss Maritime Authorities, there may be the possibility to take over the Swiss Flag Certificate and Radio Call Sign / MMSI. For Swiss nationals, this poses a straight-forward opportunity to take on an affordable offshore sailboat under Swiss flag with only limited additional investments.

Deck:
  • Complete refurbishment of teak deck: Removal of all deck fittings. Removal of old caulking. Planing and hand milling of joints where necessary. Recaulking with top-grade Pantera Sea Line 1000DC. Remaining teak thickness is approx. 12mm throughout (2024)
  • Refurbishment of anchor locker: Inside surface sanded and painted with two layers of Danboline. Stainless steel partition allows to securely store two Campingaz bottles. Lid hinges re-bedded with A4 stainless screws and equipped with flush-line storm-proof 90° rotating latch in A4 stainless steel. (2025)
